Wes’ Story
Wes’ life could end at any time, his doctor warned. At 45, he’d already had a heart attack and stroke, hurt his family, lost his job, and no longer had a home. Still his craving for alcohol seemed impossible to ignore. “I was basically killing myself,” he says.
At Winchester Rescue Mission, Wes found rest, encouragement, and real help. “I could talk to people here and get advice. They led me where I needed to go.” Wes was able to complete our Culinary Program and renew his license as a professional cook. And he learned a new way to cope with his need for alcohol.
“When I have cravings, I allow God to deal with it. Now I have my shield up and I’m ready when those thoughts come!” Today, Wes is cooking delicious meals for hungry people who come to our Café on Cameron. His children are back in his life, and his health has improved dramatically. “I took advantage of everything the Mission offered. I thank God I was able to come here,” he says today.
